IN BRIEF
Government to Return Synagogues
The Sejm approved a law on Feb. 20 returning property belonging to Jewish
communities before World War II and serving religious purposes to its original
owners. The law has now been passed on to the Senate. According to the
government, today's Jewish communities can count on the return of about
2,000 buildings, primarily synagogues and cemeteries. International Jewish
organizations maintain that the government should return over 6,000 properties.
